Native Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselling Association of Nova Scotia/A.S.H. (Aboriginal Survivors for Healing) Inc.
Grant ID: 4065.02
Title: A Journey of Healing
Project Description: NADACA a Journey of Healing project will continue to enhance the connections with survivors
throughout Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Eduard Island. The project will continue to phase in more
traditional, holistic healing programs and services though one on one counselling, talking circles, women’s groups, men’s groups, and survivor groups. The treatment program is designed to be a component of and consistent with Mi’Kmaw Lodge and Eagle’s Nest Recovery House culturally based holistic treatment program and philosophy. We run two IRS wellness programs in each of our centres per year. The wellness program addresses the legacy of Residential School in the communities of the provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, through the provision of community outreach, workshops, seminars, staff training, community therapeutic group sessions and aftercare planning, which are essential to service delivery. The project will continue to enhance and strengthen linkages to other community partnership agencies and other service providers.
A.S.H. (Aboriginal Survivors for Healing) Inc. – Add on program
The project will furthermore provide financial assistance to A.S.H. (Aboriginal Survivors for Healing) Inc. to continue to deliver traditional, holistic healing services and supports to former students of the Indian residential school system and their families on Prince Edward Island.
These include regular separate men’s and women’s healing circles, three weeks each month; monthly, topic focused healing
retreats; individual, traditional counseling as well as annual events to mark the National Day of Healing and Reconciliation and Mawiomi.
ASH participates on working groups and committees locally, provincially and regionally which have as their focus
former student needs and interests in order to provide accurate and leading edge information to our clients to maximize their participation in the benefits arising from the Indian Residential School Settlement Agreement and related resources.”
